The enforcement will run from late evening Saturday, Feb. 1, to the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 2, said Monroe Police Lt. Stephen Corrone.

The primary purpose of the enforcement is the detection and apprehension of intoxicated drivers, Corrone said.

In addition to the checkpoint, officers will also be enforcing speed limits, looking for distracted driving, and seatbelts requirements and aggressive driving throughout the checkpoint.

"Aggressive driving, following too closely and excessive speed along with failing to utilize safety restraints needlessly claim the lives of motorists on Connecticut roadways every year," said Corrone.

The enforcement will include marked and unmarked patrol vehicles as well as other resources.
